Cape Town-based pet and lifestyle brand Chommies has launched its new Mother City Travel Collection, a range of leather travel accessories inspired by a slower, more nostalgic era of travel.
The Wish You Were Here collection draws inspiration from the objects that once defined a journey: postcards sent home, stamps collected over time, ticket stubs tucked into memory boxes and handwritten notes that crossed oceans before emails and instant messages.
In a world where travel has become increasingly streamlined and standardised, Chommies wanted to create something more personal.
Travel accessories with meaning
“Travel is deeply personal, yet many of the things we travel with feel interchangeable,” says Devon Bräsler, Head of Design at Chommies.
“We wanted to create pieces that feel less like accessories and more like keepsakes. Items that carry stories, reflect personality and become part of the journey itself.”
Made by hand in Cape Town from full-grain leather, the collection includes passport holders, luggage tags, keyrings, key sleeves and a signature envelope-style poo bag holder.
Some pieces feature embroidered details inspired by vintage travel stamps and airmail envelopes, while others have a cleaner, more minimal look.
Function meets sentimentality
The result is a collection that sits between function and sentimentality.
While Chommies is best known for creating products for dogs and the people who love them, the brand has always worked at the intersection of design, craftsmanship and everyday life.
“Our community has never been defined solely by dog ownership,” says Bräsler.
“It’s made up of people who appreciate thoughtful design, quality materials, a sense of curiosity and products that feel considered.”
