If you’ve ever tried to take the perfect family photo with your cats, you’ll feel this grandpa’s pain.
A Japanese cat dad has become an Instagram favourite thanks to his wholesome mission: travelling across Japan with his two beloved cats, Chouchou and Miko, to visit beautiful flower festivals.
With colourful fields providing the backdrop, his Instagram account, @catwolf0314, has all the ingredients for picture-perfect family portraits.
There is only one problem.
Chouchou and Miko don’t always seem interested in cooperating.
A sunflower photo quickly turns into a boxing match
On a recent trip to Sera Kogen Farm in Hiroshima, the trio headed into a sunflower field for a summer portrait.
Grandpa was smiling proudly, the cats were positioned on his lap and the flowers provided the perfect setting.
Cute, right?
Not for long.
Chouchou and Miko soon decided it was time for a boxing match, with the photos capturing the two cats swatting at each other while their owner desperately tried to hold onto both of them.
This is definitely not a one-off
Scroll through the account and it becomes clear that getting these two to pose together is something of an ongoing challenge.
Some photos capture grandpa with his mouth open in apparent disbelief as the cats face off.
In others, Chouchou and Miko turn their faces in opposite directions like an old married couple forced to pose together on holiday.
Fortunately for grandpa, every failed attempt seems to make the family photos even better.
Meet Chouchou and Miko
Chouchou is the elegant white cat with a distinctive black tail.
Chouchou was rescued in October 2016 and joined the family in January 2021.
Miko is the baby of the family and was born in September 2024.
The account’s name also carries a special family connection.
It honours Wolf, a much-loved cat who lived for 18 years before passing away on 31 December 2020.
Sometimes they do behave for the camera
It’s not always a feline version of The War of the Roses.
Every so often, Chouchou and Miko put their differences aside and become perfect models, sitting peacefully together among the flowers.
Whether they’re posing sweetly among the blooms or turning another carefully planned family portrait into chaos, Chouchou and Miko have made their flower-filled adventures entertaining for a reason grandpa might not have originally intended.
After all, anyone with cats knows the best family photos are rarely the ones that go according to plan.
