A tiny dog who arrived at the Animal Welfare Society of SA (AWS) severely underweight, almost completely hairless and suffering from tick-bite fever has made a remarkable recovery and found a loving forever home.
Frankie was abandoned and left to survive on the streets before being taken into the care of the Animal Welfare Society of SA.
His condition was heartbreaking, and his future was uncertain. But thanks to veterinary treatment, proper nutrition and the dedication of the AWS team, the little dog was given a second chance at life.
Today, Frankie is almost unrecognisable. Once a fragile, neglected stray, he has become a healthy, scruffy companion enjoying the comfort and affection of his new family.
Frankie arrived at the shelter in a heartbreaking condition
When Frankie first arrived at AWS, he was severely underweight and had barely any hair on his body.
He was also battling tick-bite fever, adding to the challenges facing the already vulnerable dog.
Having been abandoned and left to fend for himself, Frankie needed medical attention, nourishment and a safe environment in which to recover.
His rehabilitation would require time, patience and consistent care.
Fortunately, the AWS Hospital Team and Adoptions Care Squad were there to help him begin that journey.

Veterinary care and kindness transform Frankie’s life
With dedicated treatment and support, Frankie slowly began to regain his strength.
The AWS team provided veterinary care, proper nutrition and the attention he needed to recover from his ordeal.
As the days passed, his health improved and his coat gradually started growing back.
The transformation was remarkable.
The little dog who had arrived at the shelter in such poor condition was becoming a healthy, scruffy companion with a personality of his own.
But Frankie’s recovery was about more than his physical appearance.
After experiencing abandonment and neglect, he was finally able to enjoy the safety, care and kindness he had been missing.
Frankie finds his forever family
The next chapter in Frankie’s story brought the happy ending everyone had hoped for.
After recovering in the care of AWS, he was adopted by a loving family.
The once-neglected little dog now enjoys a life filled with comfort, affection and security.
From arriving at the shelter with barely any hair to becoming a pampered companion in his new home, Frankie has undergone an extraordinary transformation.
His days of struggling to survive on the streets are behind him.
Instead, he can enjoy the simple pleasures of being cared for and loved.

Animal Welfare Society of SA highlights the power of rescue
Frankie’s journey is a reminder that rescuing an animal is often only the beginning of its recovery.
Neglected and abandoned pets may need medical treatment, proper nutrition, rehabilitation and time before they are ready for a new home.
The work of the AWS Hospital Team and Adoptions Care Squad played an important role in giving Frankie that opportunity.
His story also highlights the difference a successful adoption can make to an animal that has experienced hardship.
For the Animal Welfare Society of SA, every rehabilitation and adoption represents an opportunity to change an animal’s life.
Frankie may have arrived as a fragile street survivor, but his condition did not define his future.
Beneath his neglected appearance was a little dog waiting for the chance to recover, feel safe and become part of a family.
Today, Frankie has exactly that.
From abandoned street dog to pampered little prince, Frankie has finally found the happy ending he deserves.
