Adopt Bagheera: TEARS’ Affectionate Longstayer Needs an Only-Dog Home

Bagheera, an affectionate dog who loves swimming, long walks and learning, is looking for a home after almost three years in the care of TEARS Animal Rescue.

Born in 2019 and rescued in 2023, he needs a patient adopter with time for ongoing training, outdoor adventures and companionship. He must be the only dog in a home without cats or small animals. Older children are suitable, according to TEARS.

Known as Baggy by shelter staff, he is this week’s featured longstayer.

A Loyal Companion Who Loves Adventure

With his sleek, jet-black coat, Bagheera was named after the panther in The Jungle Book.

“Much like that character, Bagheera is exceptionally loyal and kind and he will do absolutely anything for his humans,” says TEARS. “He’s great with people he trusts and a real softie once you get to know him.”

His favourite activities include exploring trails, taking long walks and swimming. An adopter who enjoys spending time outdoors would suit his appetite for adventure.

Bright and Eager to Learn

Bagheera responds well to consistent training. Once he understands what is being asked, he retains the lesson and applies it to new situations.

His enthusiasm for learning and desire to please make time for training an important part of his future home.

At the shelter, his routine includes meals, exercise-enclosure time, chew toys, walks when volunteers are available and weekly outings beyond the grounds. What he still needs is the individual attention and companionship of a permanent home.

What Kind of Home Does Bagheera Need?

TEARS identifies these requirements:

An only-dog home. Other dogs sometimes overstimulate him, and he is happiest keeping his distance.
No cats or small animals. This is a firm requirement.
A household with older children, if children are present.
An adopter who enjoys walks, swimming and interactive play.
Time for consistent training, affection and companionship.
